LILO AND STITCH

Today in Disney Animation History, we have Disney's 42nd animated film, "Lilo and Stitch".

It was released on this day 10 years ago. It was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois and produced by Clark Spencer.

The 85 minute-long film features music by Alan Silvestri. It was made on a budget of 80 million dollars and made $273,144,151 at the box office. As marketing for the film, several teaser trailers featuring Stitch visiting past Disney films were produced. Here they are! (Click on each to view)...

It was released on VHS & DVD for the first time on December 3rd 2002, and then a new "Big Wave Edition" was released on March 24th 2009.

Several direct to video sequels to Lilo and Stitch were released. The first was "Stitch! The Movie", which was the pilot to the TV show "Lilo and Stitch: the Series". This show aired from 2003-2006. Then, another sequel, "Leroy and Stitch", a TV movie to end the TV series was made. Then, finally on August 30th 2005, "Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch", the "official sequel" to the first film was released.

According to D23.com...

"When Lilo & Stitch co-writers and co-directors Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois visited Hawaii before beginning work on this beloved film about ‘ohana, the Hawaiian word describing the importance of family, they decided they would use watercolors to recreate the unique coloring, vegetation and landscapes found everywhere on the islands. It was a technique that hadn’t been employed at Walt Disney Feature Animation in more than 60 years — not since the making of Dumbo — and Lilo & Stitch is similar to that film in that they’re both simple, beautiful stories told using less complex and time-consuming animation. That less-is-more approach turned out to serve both movies well. As DeBlois wrote in Lilo & Stitch — Collected Stories from the Film’s Creators, the companion book to the movie, “The soft, rounded character designs and organic watercolors relax the imagery and ease the atmosphere, to portray a sense of Lilo’s endless summer, childlike perception of her world. We designed her town in such a way that Lilo could get everywhere she wanted to go by means of little paths, quiet back roads, and even a cavernous storm pipe that runs underneath the main street. We had spent time in Hanalei and Hanapepe while on a research trip to Kaua’i, and these beautiful, sleepy little spots became the inspiration for Lilo’s town.” The filmmakers recognized the debt they owed to Dumbo by including a Dumbo doll in Lilo’s room, which can be seen just before Stitch leaves her."

"Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten."

40 YEARS AGO - THE MAIN STREET ELECTRICAL PARADE

"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Disneyland proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination in thousands of sparkling lights and electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds. The Main Street Electrical Parade!"

40 years ago today, the most spectacular and popular parade of Disneyland ever, the "Main Street Electrical Parade" debuted.

According to D23's official website...

"It was a day of deep tension and nerves for those involved in the premiere of Disneyland’s Main Street Electrical Parade, because just two weeks earlier the parade was on the fritz. Disney engaged a company in Chicago to build the floats and most were not complete, and work on some hadn’t even begun! Disneyland’s Vice President of Entertainment Bob Jani and Director of Show Development Ron Miziker decided to have all the units shipped to California in pieces where a second set of electricians and technicians would try to make them all work. Everything was down to “the wire” but when the gates opened for the big premiere, it was all ready, and it was electrifying. As for the now trademark theme song, Jani originally suggested that music from Fantasia should accompany the new parade of lights, but it was Producer Jack Wagner who felt that it should be something electronic rather than orchestral. Within 48 hours Wagner discovered Baroque Hoedown on the record album Spotlight on the Moog: Kaleidoscopic Vibrations by Jean Jacques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley, and for the next 37 years, that song has accompanied the various versions of the Electrical Parade at Disney theme parks around the world and it’s still glowing strong!"

This parade was the inspiration of Robert Jani, who was Disneyland's director of entertainment for may years. the floats were designed by Disney Legend Bill Justice.

According to Wikipedia, here is a complete list of the parade floats...

In 2001, a new reincarnation of this beloved parade was brought back in the form of "Disney's Electrical Parade" at Disney's California Adventure. That closed in 2010. (And hopefully they bring it back soon! I would like to see it for once!!!)

FINAL PHOTOSHOP POST

Well, here it is finally. The last Photoshop post. (If you missed the first two... click Here and Here)

Here's some extra stuff I did in my spare time in my Business Apps class...

This, (now that I think about it) is kinda cheesy, but I added that quote from Harry, I added the little stars 'n' stuff around the elder wand, and I tried to make the wand stand out more by darkening everything around it. I also put a filter on it so that Harry's side of the page is more blue, and Voldy's is more red. Can you tell? Lastly, I made Voldemort's eye red (like it's supposed to be) and I tried to make Harry's green (like it's supposed to be) but Harry's eye was too dark, so you can't really tell...

Next, I edited my picture with my good buddy Red Stick that I like to visit @ Disneyland. I was pointing out something to him off in the distance (ooooo... Candy Palace...) :) but it didn't really turn out...

Can you tell the difference???

(This needs no explanation)

(Nor this)

Now I'll reveal the answers to my visual puns (Grandma, you were the only one who guessed at them, and you got them all correct!!! Nice job!) They are...

1. Caterpillar

2. Cup of Tea

3. Headphones

4. Hot Dog

and 5. Napoleon Dynamite

6 DAYS

I can not believe that it is only less than a week until the completion of the Disney California Adventure expansion is complete!!!

How did it change so drastically from this...

...to this???

Well, in celebration of the 78th birthday of that attitude ridden duck named Donald, and also of the 6th anniversary of the June 9th 2006 release of Disney*Pixar's "Cars" (and also in preparation for next week!!!), I thought I'd take you on a timeline detailing the spectacular multi-year expansion. Let's take a look!!!

On October 17th 2007, it was announced that the Disneyland Resort would undergo a 5-Year expansion.

slide_2

On March 14th 2008, Disney California Adventure (I'll call it DCA) got a little more Disney-fied with the addition of the "Pixar Play Parade".

And on June 17th 2008, Paradise Pier saw the addition of the super-fun "Toy Story Midway Mania!"

On May 4th 2009, The Sun Wheel in Paradise Pier got a face lift, when the giant beaming face of Mickey Mouse replaced the creepy sun face. Also, the California Screamin' Mickey face was replaced with a giant Paradise Pier sign.

The new fireworks spectacular, "Magical" debuted on June 12th 2009.

On October 29th 2009, Blue Sky Cellar, the area that showcases the upcoming future of the resort, opened it's doors.

June 11th 2010 saw the debut of the beautiful and breathtaking nighttime water spectacular, "World of Color"...

...and June 12th 2009 saw the opening of "Silly Symphony Swings" (formerly the "Orange Stinger")

On October 8th 2010, Hollywood Pictures Backlot got "Derezzed" with the opening of "elecTRONica" in celebation of "Tron Legacy".

(It's blurry and hard to see, but there's me with my Flynn's Arcade tokens)

On May 27th 2011, "Mickey's Soundsational Parade" took to the streets of Disneyland park.

On June 3rd 2011 "Star Tours" got a major reboot when the 3-D "Star Tours: The Adventures Continue" moved into Tomorrowland.

and on the same day, the dark ride "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure" opened in DCA.

On July 1st 2011, "Goofy's Sky School" moved in, and "Mulholland Madness" moved out.

July 15th 2011 was the first phase of the DCA entrance transformation. The new turnstiles were revealed, and the giant CALIFORNIA letters were removed. (I miss you soooo much "O")

On January 20th 2012, the original Disneyland Hotel opened after a major 2-year renovation.

On June 7th 2012, the new Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop opened in Downtown Disney.

And finally, on June 15th 2012, this Friday, it is all complete with the opening of Buena Vista Street and Cars Land!!!

Click Here to see a video with John Lasseter and Brent Mustburger introducing Cars Land. Also, I recommend watching this short DCA tribute video, and this 5 part TV special that aired in 2001 that showcases the original DCA. It stars Barry Bostwick, Richard Kind, Colin Mochrie, Brad Sherwood, Patrick Warburton, John Lasseter, Michael Eisner and Mickey Mouse! It is so hilarious because of the way they promote such a bland park.

Let's just say, June 15th will see a HUGE (and much needed) improvement.

WHO'S EXCITED!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
